Multi-sensory Wayfinding: Lessons from the Margins towards the Design of Equitable and Healthy Public Spaces in IQD Magazine : MIXdesign team members (Hansel Bauman, Eron Friedlaender, Magda Mostafa, Joel Sanders) co-authored an essay about Multi-sensory Wayfinding, a set of design principles that draws from the lived experience of communities that have been marginalized: people who use wheelchairs, walkers and canes, Deaf people, and people on the Autism spectrum. Multi-sensory Wayfinding augments conventional signage and uses color, materials, lighting and acoustics to minimize environmental stressors and increase spatial awareness for everyone.

Appropriated Interiors edited by Deborah Schneiderman, Anca I. Lasc, Karin Tehve : Joel Sanders’ essay “Stalled! Restrooms: Inclusive Design through a Cross-Disciplinary Lens” was recently published in Appropriated Interiors, a book published by Routledge featuring thirteen original curated essays that consider the standards, assumptions, codes, and/or conventions that expand our understanding of the history, theory, and practice of interior design to challenge the status quo.
