Museum of Disability History, Viscardi Center Opens Tuesday February 17th

JSA/MIXdesign, team leader in exhibition design, worked in close collaboration with curators Ignacio G. Galán and Jordan Whitewood-Neal and the graphic design studio MTWTF to create an integrated spatial narrative organized around fourteen thematic “portals.” Each portal reflects the idea that disability history in the United States is not singular or chronological but composed of many intersecting stories. The museum presents a wide range of multimedia artifacts—including archival film, historic photographs, books, artwork, and personal effects—that document the history, lived experiences, and achievements of people with disabilities.

To mark the public opening of the museum, Dr. Chris Rosa and the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Disability History at The Viscardi Center invite you to attend the opening ceremonies on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. To learn more about the museum, click HERE.

Bobst Library Pixel Veil Wins Interior Design’s “Best of the Best: Installation” Award

On December 11, 2025, the Bobst Library Pixel Veil received the Best of the Best: Installation award at Interior Design’s 2025 Best of Year Awards. Introduced this year to mark the program’s 20th anniversary, the Best of the Best category recognizes projects whose impact has endured over time.

Completed in 2012, the Bobst Library Pixel Veil is a security screen designed to prevent student suicide attempts and save lives while also preserving the architectural integrity of NYU’s Philip Johnson-designed library atrium. More than a decade later, as student mental health remains a pressing concern, the project’s recognition affirms the importance of design approaches that engage safety, care, and preservation, and highlights how architecture can contribute meaningfully to addressing urgent social challenges. Architectural League of New York Establishes the Paul Gunther Prize for Inclusive Public Space

JSA/MIXdesign and The Architectural League of New York are proud to announce the Paul Gunther Prize for Inclusive Public Space, a new initiative honoring cultural leader, preservationist, and public realm activist Paul W. Gunther (1956–2022). Launching Fall 2026, the Prize will award annual grants of up to $20,000 to one individual or team to pursue a proposal for creating, improving, or preserving inclusive public space in New York City and promoting a sense of belonging for all. Grants may support research, design proposals, the development of policy recommendations, or some combination of these. All proposals should be actionable in public space—eventually enabling or resulting in a change to the built environment. To learn more about the prize, click HERE.

With over $190,000 already raised and all new contributions currently being matched up to $90,000—we are now within $84,000 of fully funding the Prize for its first 10 years. For those looking to support, gifts of any size are welcome and fully tax-deductible.
